Serra Meets – Archbishop Emeritus Elden F. Curtiss

Archbishop Emeritus Elden F. Curtiss retired as the fourth Archbishop of Omaha, Nebraska, in 2009. He was ordained a priest in Baker City, Oregon, in 1958 and appointed bishop of Helena, Montana, in 1976. He served the Diocese of Helena until his appointment as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Omaha in 1993. Archbishop Curtiss was born in Baker City, Oregon, and completed studies at St. Edward Seminary in Kenmore, Washington.
Archbishop Curtiss holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters of Divinity from the seminary and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Portland. Some of his work during his tenure as bishop involved serving on various committees of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops, including chairing the Bishops Committee on Vocations and serving as a member of the Pontifical Council for the Family in Rome.
Archbishop Curtiss served as episcopal advisor to Serra International from 1993 to 2000. He was a keynote speaker at the 2009 Serra International Convention in Omaha, Nebraska. Throughout the years, he has provided invaluable counsel to dozens of Serra leaders, helping to guide Serra spiritually and in matters of organizational governance. He continues to assist with events in the Archdiocese of Omaha as his health allows.
